Today, Valentine’s Day, brings many things to mind, from cards, flowers, and heart-shaped chocolates to quotations, poems, and that special song, that one song that you both call “our song.” There are those special handmade cards, breakfast prepared with love, or a special note hidden away to be found later. One thing that can be said about Valentine’s Day is that it brings us to SHOW love for others, to demonstrate, to tell, to share with others the love we have for them. We may not always be as forthcoming with our display of love the rest of the year, but on this day so very many express their love to those they love. And that is a good thing.

Real love is a love that is given, for love is personal, love touches a person’s heart as it is given from a heart that loves. True love is not withheld but is shown and shared, expressed and given to another. A hidden love is never all that love can truly be. True love is given, and in that giving of true love is a special hope that the same love will be given back.

We all have seen video clips of a young man getting on one knee to surprise a young lady with a marriage proposal. The young man, down on one knee, pops the question with a ring in his hand, love in his eyes, and hope in his voice. And then, for a moment, time almost seems to stand still as we await the answer. She said yes! And we are joyful. She said no… and we feel for the young man. The man’s love was expressed knowing that with a “yes” response, a deeper, loving relationship would be born. A “no” brings heartbreak and sadness, his love given but not received nor given back. A relationship that could have been will never be. There is something that saddens us when love is given but not received and given back.

HIGHER THOUGHT: Know today that God loves you! In showing His love, God didn’t give you a card, a bouquet of beautiful flowers, or even a ring. God gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. God’s word, the Bible, tells us, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.(John 3:16) My friend, don’t miss that word “world,” for it includes you and me! In the word “world” is your name and my name. God loves you, you personally! The question is, “Do you believe God and in God’s love for you? Do you believe in Jesus?”

You see, in Jesus God expressed His love for the world, and that means for you. Jesus gave Himself, not just dying for you, but taking your sins and my sins upon Himself, taking the punishment that our sins deserve. God’s word tells us, But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.(Romans 5:8) Jesus died that our sins might be forgiven by holy God.

God loves you. How do I know? God has proven His love for you at the cross of Jesus Christ. In love God took our very worst so that we may have the best, a relationship of love with God Himself. God has shown His love for you and that ought to make you feel very special! You are special to God!

God will not make you love Him back, for that is not true love. But God desires a relationship with you, for God loves you. And similarly, as the young man down on one knee proposing marriage awaits a response, God awaits your answer.

Have you given God an answer to God expressing His love for you, in God giving His Son Jesus for you? The decision lies with each individual human being, for God is personal, God’s love is personal, and a relationship with God is personal. God has done His part, God has shown His love, God has given His love to you in Jesus Christ.

God is eternal and God’s love is eternal, it really is forever. Accordingly, your response to God’s love matters for eternity. What will be your answer?
